7 Leaves, a coffee and tea chain originating in Orange County, takes their philosophy from Gandhi. “Be the Change You Want to See in the World” is even printed on their cups. Boba tea and strawberry croissants probably weren’t what Gandhi had in mind, but these items keep a steady flow of customers to 7 Leaves.

The menu is limited to drinks, strawberry croissants and macarons. I even experienced a rare sort of sticker shock upon learning that the croissant was only $1.60.

The croissant was nice and light, filled with custard, and adorned with a couple of strawberry slices. It was a nice way to start the day.

I’m not much of a macaron fan, but my daughter is so I bought a few for the road. The macarons, at $1.50, were well-executed, looking exactly like a macaron should. I tried the Banana Cream Pie, which had a yellow cookie on one side for the banana cream and a paler cookie on the other for the crust. To my surprise, it tasted exactly like a banana cream pie.

The big attraction at 7 Leaves is their drinks, of course. Most people seem to be getting a boba drink of some sort. As we’re not boba people, it was a straight up Thai Tea for us. The beverage was not too sweet, lightly flavored with vanilla bean, cardamom and anise.
7 Leaves works with non-profit organizations and local schools in an effort to give back to the community. So while you order your boba tea, you might as well throw in some strawberry croissants and macarons too – it’s for a good cause.
