One of the best breakfast burritos in Los Angeles can be found in a traditionally Jewish neighborhood on Fairfax, near Canter’s. Created by the team behind Golden State and Bludso’s Bar and Que on La Brea, Cofax sits under a Dodger blue awning. The name of the restaurant works on two levels – both as a nod to famed Dodger player Sandy Koufax and as a mashup of the words “coffee” and “Fairfax.”

What truly makes the breakfast burritos here special are the potatoes. The potatoes are smoked over at Bludso’s, giving the burrito a unique flavor. The veggie burrito comes stuffed with peppers, onions, scrambled eggs and cheese.

I especially liked the tortilla chips tucked inside and the two housemade salsas that came on the side – a tomatillo and chile de arbol sauce, which had quite a kick.
Cofax, which originally focused on coffee and breakfast burritos, expanded to include pastry goods on their menu, like donuts, granola and cookies.

If you like thin, crispy cookies, you’ve come to the right spot.

The dining space is rather limited, most people opting to take their burritos and espresso drinks to go. The lack of space didn’t seem to bother Elijah Wood (from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings), who happily downed his burrito while sitting on one of the benches. He may not be Lord of the Rings, but I’ll happily crown Cofax as the King of the Breakfast Burrito.
