Another storm hit LA, but we wouldn’t let that stop us from visiting the Shake Shack in Century City on opening day. Lucky for us, as the crowds that descended on the other Los Angeles locations seemed to have been kept at bay by the rain. Located in the under-renovation Westfield Century City mall, Shake Shack was the lone bustling spot in the otherwise wet empty mall.
Originally starting as a hot dog cart in New York, Shake Shack has grown rapidly, expanding all over New York and then to other states and countries, bringing classic American burgers, fries and shakes to the UK, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Turkey and even the Middle East.

The staff at Shake Shack were extremely friendly and genuinely seemed happy to be there. We were warmly greeted at the door by Mika, who offered us a menu while we waited in line. We already knew what we wanted so ordering was easy. Since it was so cold and rainy outside, beer and shakes weren’t meant to be. We compensated by getting cheese fries – now that I’ve tried them, I won’t ever go back to getting them without the cheese.

My daughter, one of the only kids in America who doesn’t like burgers, chose the hot dog. Shake Shack’s hot dogs are all-natural, with no antibiotics, and served on a non-GMO potato bun.

I chose the Shack Burger with lettuce, tomato and Shack Sauce. It’s a solid burger, the patty free of antibiotics and hormones, on a non-GMO potato bun.

My pesco-vegetarian husband loves the ‘Shroom Burger, a deep fried portobello mushroom stuffed with muenster and cheddar cheese. Even though I like eating meat, I’m always half-tempted to order it. Portions are on the smaller side, allowing room for fries and one of their famous shakes or custards.

The customer service was fantastic, the staff all very friendly. Mika, whom I can’t say enough good things about, came by to check on us (as well as other customers). There’s indoor and outdoor seating (which would be great under normal LA weather conditions), with tables made of reclaimed wood from bowling alleys. Quality food, good prices and fantastic customer service – Shake Shack, welcome to Century City. We’re proud to call you our neighbors.
