Good things come to those who wait. If you don’t want to waste time waiting in a long line to order and then to receive your food, well, then you may be settling for less. At the food court at the Torrance Mitsuwa Marketplace, the line for Santouka Ramen was quite busy so we chose the less popular Mifune.
Mifune’s menu ranges from the traditional udon to rice bowls to bento boxes. To assist you with your order, there’s a display of plastic renditions of the menu items. I stuck with the Oyako Don, chicken with onions, topped with eggs and green onions on top of a bed of rice. The dish wasn’t too flavorful and could have used a bit more sauce to help combat the blandness.
My husband’s Kitsune Udon was nothing special either, although to expect anything more from a basic dish like this would be asking too much. With big puffs of tofu floating in the broth, the udon was light and tasted like the udon that you pretty much could get from anywhere.
If you’re short on time or very hungry, Mifune will do in a pinch. Otherwise, I’d say head over to Santouka for a bowl of ramen.
