Tyler Florence / Napa Farms Market – San Francisco

Usually the thought of having to eat at an airport is pretty depressing. However if that airport is SFO and you’re lucky enough to be in Terminal 2, Napa Farms Market can change the way you think about airport food. With several local partners and food created by Food Network star Tyler Florence, Napa Farms Market is like a miniature version of the Ferry Building Marketplace.

Tyler Florence Fresh has a rotisserie with different meats (chicken, beef and pork) and a nice selection of salads, featuring local farmers’ market vegetables. You can choose a plate with a protein and two sides or an open-faced sandwich with a side.

The rotisserie chicken plate features Mary’s organic chicken, simply roasted, flavorful and juicy, without a lot herbs or spices.  The asparagus salad tasted healthy, flecked with cous cous and peppers, but the real star of the show was the macaroni and cheese. Rich and creamy, the pasta was pure decadence. If you’re a vegetarian, you can order a plate of side salads.

The possibilities don’t end there. There’s a pizza counter for pizzas made to order (there’s a bit of a wait for the pizzas, so if you’re in a rush better look elsewhere).

Like the Ferry Building, Napa Farms Market has a Cowgirl Creamery and an Acme Bakery should you feel like a cheese plate and some bread instead, and even a Kara’s Cupcakes for dessert.

Of course, there are local wines and beers to round out your meal or to bring on the plane with you.

Seriously though, you want the macaroni and cheese. Don’t even bother getting anything else. How good is the macaroni and cheese? A cup of it costs $5, and I guarantee it will be one of the best things you’ve ever spent $5 to get. So before you get on that plane or catch your Uber/Lyft ride into the city after landing at SFO, stop in and order a cup (or two).
