For years, I had been wishing for an ice cream shop to open within walking distance. Lo and behold, my wish came true when Mashti Malone’s opened in the old Starbucks space on Westwood Blvd. Mashti’s has been in business for over 40 years in Hollywood, serving classic flavors like chocolate to more exotic Persian ones like saffron rosewater with pistachio.

They have over 30 flavors, made from all-natural ingredients. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to see the flavors until you get to the front of the line, where there’s a sign with the list – at which point you may feel pressure to quickly make a decision. A single scoop is $5 but can be split into two half-scoops. You can also get the Mashti Special, their version of an ice cream sandwich, with a scoop of ice cream in between two wafer cookies.

Their ice cream isn’t overly sweet, so the natural flavors shine through. So far, I’ve tried alfonso mango, coconut pineapple, banana walnut, and date, all good. Thank you, Mashti Malone, for making my wish come true!
