At Chicas Tacos in Culver City, you’ll find Mexican pizza, made on flour tortillas, along with the usual fare of tacos, burritos and bowls, created by Chef Eduardo Ruiz, a James Beard Award nominee. Although indoor dining is not currently available, there is an outdoor patio area and a large beer garden sponsored by Golden Road Brewing (with Happy Hour specials) where you can eat and drink.

Food is packaged in rectangular pink boxes for on-site dining and takeaway. Tacos range from $4.19 -$4.99 with fillings like chicken and beef to the more unsual jackfruit and Impossible Meat, served on La Princesita corn tortillas. For $10, you can get their two taco combo, which comes with chips and salsa ($1 upcharge for each Impossible taco).
Their famous fish taco comes with a hefty piece of fish, beer-battered and fried, salsa morita, and caesar salad with garlic breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese. The salad was lightly dressed and the salsa was missing from my taco, making it a little dry. Though it was a big piece of fish, there were a couple of bites which were tad too fishy.
The pork taco was the better of the two, with a decent serving of slow-braised pork, topped with salsa verde, caramelized onions and cilantro. I would have preferred pickled onions on top to balance out the flavors, as the sweetness of the onions didn’t really work.
Chips and salsa were fairly standard, with thick lightly salted chips and a ever-so-slightly spicy watery salsa. Being a healthy eater, I easily ate the two tacos and all the chips and could have squeezed in another taco.
Chicas Tacos offers Taco Tuesday specials like a two taco combo with chips and salsa, and a beer for $13.95, as well as beer and margarita specials. On Thursdays, a side of chips and salsa comes free with your purchase of two tacos. I wish Chicas Tacos had been there years ago when I worked in the area – it would have saved me from Tito’s Tacos.
