There was a killer inside of Small Batch in Mar Vista – not just one, but two. Luckily they were the cereal kind, as opposed to the serial ones. At Top Chef Brooke Wiliamson’s artisanal ice cream shop, you’ll find these whimsically named flavors and many other tempting treats.
Upon stepping into Small Batch, you’ll see the space is much bigger than the tiny storefront would suggest, with seating alongside a long wall with a cool mural of a boy eating an ice cream cone.
There are eighteen flavors to choose from, including a couple of vegan options. A single scoop is $4, which is one of the better priced scoops around.
I was kind of intrigued by the Cookie Monster, a bright turquoise blue color, perfect for Instagram pics. Since food color is used to dye it that unusual hue, I decided against it, imagining the way my mouth might look afterwards.
The Chocolate Malted Crunch, a flavor that was one of my faves from Thrifty Ice Cream, blew away the original. I managed to take one pic before my husband devoured it.
I chose one of the cereal killer ice creams. Lucky Charms was tinged a light green, so I chose the other – Return of the Toast, with Cinnamon Toast Crunch pieces. I wish eating breakfast could always taste this good! I pretended that it was healthy – not only was there calcium, but there was that cereal fortified with vitamins and minerals.
In the back, there’s a lovely patio area to enjoy your frozen dessert. I imagine it would be the perfect place to eat their Unicorn Sundae – 10 scoops, 8 toppings, 3 sauces, whipped cream, cherry, sprinkles, unicone and sparkler – with a few friends.
With the temperatures finally getting warmer, Small Batch is the perfect place to bask in LA’s glorious sunshine, eating some killer ice cream. As St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend, you may even want to celebrate with some magically delicious Lucky Charms ice cream.
