Cardi B is my queen, so when she posted about her visit to Emporium Thai two days in a row, I had to go there in hopes of a sighting. Just kidding. Actually, I came here because we were craving Thai food for lunch.
We haven’t been here in years but figured we should give it another shot. From Monday to Saturday, Emporium has an executive lunch special for $12.95 for chicken or veggies in the entree, with additional charges for beef, shrimp, pork or seafood. Entrees range from noodles or fried rice to curries and stir fries – the latter two served with rice. You can specify your spice level, all the way up to level 10.
Unlike lunch specials at other Thai restaurants, you won’t get soup, spring roll or dumpling with your meal, though a mixed green salad is included.
The Pad See Ew was a solid choice. The portion was a decent size, with some veggies mixed in with the flat rice noodles.
As a Bruin, I had to have the UCLA Curry Chicken, a yellow curry with pumpkin. The curry was good and had a slight amount of heat to it (I ordered a spice level 2), but the portion was tiny. I silently cursed my choice of entree and wished I had ordered that pad see ew instead. That’s when I remembered why we stopped getting food from Emporium – the servings were so small that we were always hungry afterwards.
On the positive side, I definitely didn’t overeat and had plenty of room for dessert (Saffron and Rose, on of the best ice cream places in the city is right down the street)! Maybe when I can make money move, I’ll be back for my Thai food fix.
