For New York pizza in Los Angeles, look no further than Lamonica’s NY Pizza in Westwood. Lamonica’s is dedicated to creating authentic New York pizza, even making their dough in Brooklyn, using the famous local tap water.
Lamonica’s has been serving UCLA students and the local community for over 30 years. Their daily special of two slices of cheese pizza and a soda for only $5.50 keeps many Bruins well-fed.
Slices range from the meat-laden to vegetarian, including a White Pizza (ricotta, mozzarella, romano and parmesan cheese, spinach and garlic) which is one of my faves.
On Sundays and after 9PM on the other days of the week, there’s a $10 deal for a large 18″ cheese pizza (which normally costs $16.50), about the price you’d pay at Domino’s but for a much larger and better-tasting pizza.
My daughter only eats cheese pizza so my husband and I will add a topping to the other half. While other pizza places will charge you the add-on charge for the entire pizza, Lamonica’s will only charge half-price.
The 18″ inch pizza is huge and cut into eight pieces.
The slices are large and have a thin crust, so it’s best to eat it the New York way – just fold and eat with your hands.
While people in New York are either freezing their butts off or wilting in the humidity, you can have the best of both worlds with Lamonica’s and eat like a New Yorker while basking in the glory of our perfect Los Angeles weather.
