The Simpsons Springfield U.S.A.- Universal City

The Simpsons Springfield U.S.A. is brought to life at Universal Studios Hollywood.  Many of the famous landmarks from the show are here – like Moe’s, Springfield Elementary School and Krusty Burger.

Unfortunately, the long line at Krusty Burger discouraged us from partaking in one of those infamous Krusty Burgers (though it you watch the show, you eat one at your own risk).

Taking into account a pesto-vegetarian dietary restriction, thus knocking Cletus’ Chicken Shack and Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck out of the running, we found ourselves at the considerably less popular Luigi’s Pizza and Pasta.

The line is handled cafeteria-style with the slices of pizza and bowls of pasta placed out along the line for you to help yourself.  The pizza combo comes with a caesar salad for under $8. If you just want a piece of pizza, you’ll still get charged the combo price (we learned this the hard way) – so you might as well grab the salad too.

The pizza was what you would expect from an amusement park pizza, a little greasy, but much better than the slices from the now defunct Pizza Oom Mow Mow from California Adventure. If you’re with a group, order a large pizza, 8 slices for $31.99 – a better bang for your buck.

The best things about Luigi’s? There’s a covered patio area – a welcome retreat if you’re there on a cold rainy day. They also serve beer so it’s possible to drink a Duff beer (or in our case, Angel City IPA), which runs $10.99 for 24 oz. Then, there’s my other favorite part about Luigi’s – being able to watch The Simpsons on TV while eating. It’s just like being at home.
