Gulp – Rancho Park

If you enjoy good beer and burgers, look no further than Gulp Restaurant on Pico Blvd. A sign outside proudly proclaims “$13 All Day Burger, Fries and Any Draft Beer.”  With 36 beers on draft, Gulp definitely does not disappoint beer lovers. Most beers range in price from $7 to $8, so paying an additional $5-$6 for a quality burger and fries is quite a deal – especially considering Islands, up the street, charges around $11 for a burger and fries.

With TVs around the bar and main dining room, Gulp is usually showing sports. I’m not a sports fan so I manage to tune out the screens in favor of checking out the beer menu.  Beers rotate frequently but often include Ballast Point, Stone Brewery, Anderson Valley. Gulp also frequently has tap takeovers featuring various craft breweries like Angel City and Lagunitas.

Since my husband doesn’t eat meat, he gets the veggie burger. Made on the premises, the veggie patty is full of grains and veggies and gives regular burgers a run for their money. As I rarely eat red meat, I get the turkey burger, though I might choose that veggie burger in the future. Subbing the beef patty for a veggie or turkey patty costs an extra $2. The burgers are good, not too big, and served on a beautiful brioche bun. The fries are perfect – I have to restrain myself from eating them all.

Gulp also has a Happy Hour every day from 5-7:30pm. We’ve tried the fish tacos and nachos and liked them both.

Gulp has a very laid back atmosphere, and it’s not uncommon to see single women eating lunch on their own, enjoying a mimosa with their meal. Maybe there’s a deal on mimosas, maybe not. Who knows? I’m happy with my beer.

As of August 2017, Gulp charges $16 for their burger, beer and fries deal.
